Introduction
What AlgoBeam is, how the platform and the open-source runtime fit together.
AlgoBeam is a research desk for systematic traders. It pairs a fast charting surface with screeners, alerts, heatmaps and a backtester, and it exposes the same engine through AlgoBeamTS, our open-source runtime. The idea is simple: whatever you can see on a chart, you should be able to express in code, test against history, and run somewhere else without rewriting it.
There are two halves to the product. The hosted platform is where you look at markets — charts, watchlists, replay, portfolio analytics and the indicator library. AlgoBeamTS is the half you install: a compiler that turns AlgoBeamScript into plain JavaScript, plus a runtime that feeds it bars from whichever data provider you point it at. Scripts written in one half run unchanged in the other.
AlgoBeamScript is a small, declarative language for describing indicators and strategies. It has series-aware arithmetic, a standard library of technical functions under the ta namespace, and one obvious way to draw things on a chart. It deliberately does not have a threading model, a file system or a network stack — the runtime handles all of that, which is what makes the same script safe to run in a browser tab and on a server.
Everything in these docs assumes you already know your way around candles, moving averages and order types. If a term is unfamiliar, the Library has a plain-language entry for it. If you want to skip the reading, the Quickstart gets a working indicator on screen in about three minutes.
One standing caveat: nothing here is investment advice.
