About
We build the tools we wanted back when we were the ones trading.
AlgoBeam exists because research software kept forcing a choice between charts that looked beautiful and numbers you could actually defend. We refused to pick.
Three rebuilds of the same backtester

AlgoBeam started in a one-room office above a bakery in Tallinn, with two monitors, a whiteboard nobody wiped, and an argument that ran for most of a winter. Maren had spent nine years running a systematic futures book and had rebuilt the same backtester three separate times — once in R, once in C#, and once in a spreadsheet so large it took forty seconds to recalculate a single parameter sweep. Tobias had written the execution layer for a crypto market maker and was tired of indicators that quietly behaved one way in research and another way in production.
The argument was about trust. The tools on the market split cleanly into two camps. On one side, charting products that were gorgeous and completely unfalsifiable: a ribbon turned green, and you were never told which bars made it turn or how often it had been wrong. On the other, quant stacks that were rigorous and close to unusable — a week of plumbing before you could look at a single chart. We wanted a third thing: a chart you can click through to the underlying bars, a backtest that warns you when you are fitting noise, and a language you can take with you when you leave.
So the language came first. AlgoBeamScript is deliberately small and deliberately boring — no hidden lookahead, no repainting by accident, one obvious way to express a rule. We shipped the transpiler in the spring of 2022 as AlgoBeamTS, MIT licensed, so that the part that computes your numbers could never be held hostage by a subscription. The platform grew around it: screeners, alerts, heatmaps, calendars and a strategy builder, all reading the same data and running the same indicator code. Quant, our research assistant, arrived last, and only once it could cite the exact candles behind every sentence it wrote.
Five years in, the rule we started with has not moved. If we cannot show you where a number came from, we do not print it.
“The honest version of a trading tool is one that makes it harder to fool yourself, not easier.”
Four rules we hold ourselves to
These are not values on a wall. Each one has killed a feature that would otherwise have shipped.
Show the bars behind the claim
Every figure Quant states is anchored to the exact candles it read. Click any sentence in an answer and the chart jumps to the range, with the indicator state at that moment rendered underneath. If a conclusion cannot be traced back to bars, it does not ship.
Your strategies are yours
We do not train shared models on your private scripts, we do not publish your alerts, and we do not sell aggregated positioning to anyone. Export any strategy to a plain text file at any time and take it with you — including on the way out the door.
Open source where it matters
AlgoBeamTS — the transpiler and runtime that actually computes your indicators — is MIT licensed and lives on GitHub. If we ever stopped existing tomorrow, your AlgoBeamScript would keep producing byte-identical numbers on your own machine.
No signal selling
We do not run a paid signals room, we do not post entries for you to copy, and we take no cut of anything you trade. We are paid a flat subscription for tools. That keeps our incentive pointed at your research quality rather than your turnover.
Where AlgoBeam is today
A snapshot of the demo environment this site runs on.
Small team, long memory
Fourteen people across six time zones. Nine of them have run their own money; all of them have been stopped out badly enough to remember it.
Fictional people, for a fictional companyMaren Okonjo
Co-founder & CEO
Ran a systematic futures book for nine years, then rebuilt the same backtester one time too many.
Tobias Halvard
Co-founder & CTO
Wrote the first AlgoBeamTS parser over one dark winter and still refuses to let anyone else touch it.
Priya Raghunathan
Head of Research
Will not sign off on an indicator until it survives walk-forward on a market it was never fit to.
Daniel Ferreira-Lund
Head of Data
Keeps the tick archive honest — splits, delistings, dividends and the ugly 2020 gaps included.
Noor Al-Bahri
Design Lead
Believes a chart that hides its axis is a chart that is hiding something. Owns every pixel of density.
Sam Whitlock
Head of Community
Reads every script submitted to the public library and answers support tickets before the coffee lands.
How we actually work
What we don’t do
The fastest way to understand a trading company is to read the list of things it has decided to stay out of. Here is ours.
We do not sell signals
No entries, no exits, no “VIP room”. You build the rules; we show you what they would have done.
We do not manage money
We never take custody of a single euro. There is no fund, no pooled vehicle and no performance fee.
We are not a broker
We route no orders and clear no trades. Execution happens at your broker, under your own agreement.
We are not licensed advisers
Nothing here is personalised advice. Tools inform your decisions; the decisions and the risk stay yours.
Desks, funds and independents who run on AlgoBeam
